Digital Designer Shop: Technique Thursday - How to use template mask product

Thursday, January 06, 2011
Hi again!  It's me, Nicky.
We have this great new product for Christmas in the shop at DDS called Chrissy Trees, designed by Lilly St. Studios.  I played with this a while last week and I was requested to share how I made it.

The kit contains Christmas tree clipping masks, stitched and dotted outlines, and some pre-colored trees. I made some To/From tags and yesterday when I made my Christmas Day layout, I used three trees.  I love them!

Here is a tag I made.  It only requires you to know how to use a simple clipping mask.

Place the tree on your document.  Place your paper on the layer above it.  Clip the paper to the tree (ctrl+G), and then layer the outline above that.  Easy peasy.
Below is my Christmas layout.  I used the tree above, plus another using a clipping mask.  The tree on the left is pre-colored in the kit, and I used the Hue/Saturation option to make it a little less blue to match my layout.

{All supplies used in today's post are from Digital Designer Shop: Chrissy Trees by Lilly St. Studios, pattern papers by Honey Scraps, and background papers in the layout by Cilenia Curtis. Font: Georgia. Reindeer- I drew it using my Wacom tablet after Googling "how to draw a reindeer" for my son.}

Have fun playing with your digital products!  I can't wait to see what you do with Chrissy Trees. Link in the comments to your project!
